Connecting Your AI Assistant
Which AI assistants work with AgentRunCoach?
Subscribers can connect AgentRunCoach to supported versions of ChatGPT or Claude using a custom app or connector. Availability and setup vary by provider, plan, and workspace policy; see the current guidance below.
More assistant options are planned.
How do I connect ChatGPT?
ChatGPT custom apps are configured on the web. Availability depends on your plan, the actions the app uses, and any workspace settings. To connect ChatGPT, follow these steps on chatgpt.com.
- Open Settings → Apps. If your account or workspace is eligible, enable developer mode or choose the option to create a custom app.
- Create a custom app named AgentRunCoach and enter the server URL:
https://api.agentruncoach.com/mcp/chatgpt - Review the app's permissions, create it, and choose Connect.
You'll be redirected to AgentRunCoach to log in and grant permission. After connecting, start a new conversation, enable AgentRunCoach, and ask it to review your training or help build a plan.
How do I connect Claude?
Claude custom connectors are currently available on eligible paid plans. Add the connector in Claude on the web or in Claude Desktop; after it is added, supported mobile apps can use it but cannot add a new server directly.
- In Claude on the web or desktop app, go to Customize → Connectors.
- Tap +, then Add custom connector.
- Enter the connector URL:
https://api.agentruncoach.com/mcp - Tap Add.
The first time you connect, you'll be redirected to AgentRunCoach to log in and grant permission. After connecting, start a new conversation, enable AgentRunCoach, and ask it to review your training or help build a plan.
Do I need a paid AI assistant subscription?
An AgentRunCoach subscription is separate from your AI assistant's. Connecting through ChatGPT or Claude may additionally require an eligible paid plan with that provider for custom apps or connectors. Plan support and available actions can change, so check the provider's current requirements before connecting.
Can I switch to a different AI assistant later?
Yes. Your training history, plan, and coaching data all live in AgentRunCoach, not in your AI assistant. Switch anytime without losing anything.
How Your Coach Uses Your Data
What does AgentRunCoach do, and what does my AI assistant do?
AgentRunCoach and your AI assistant have different jobs. ARC stores your training history and plan, calculates metrics such as Run Fitness, applies its coaching and planning rules, and carries out requested actions. ChatGPT, Claude, or another supported assistant provides the language model and conversation, then calls ARC when it needs your data or needs to make a change. AgentRunCoach does not provide or train the language model.
What does AgentRunCoach send to my AI assistant?
When you ask your assistant something coaching-related, AgentRunCoach provides the relevant context from your account: your recent activity, training volume, pace trends, current fitness score, and plan details. Your assistant uses that context to give you a response specific to you, not a generic answer.
You stay in control of which assistant receives that data. AgentRunCoach only shares it when you're actively using a connected assistant in a conversation.
Does my AI assistant remember previous conversations?
That depends on the assistant you're using. Each platform handles conversation memory differently. What AgentRunCoach brings to every conversation is your current data: your latest runs, your training plan, your fitness trend. That's always fresh regardless of whether your assistant has memory enabled.
Can I ask my AI assistant about things other than running?
Yes. Your AI assistant works normally for anything else. AgentRunCoach only adds context when it's relevant to a coaching question. If you ask about something unrelated, it won't interfere.
Troubleshooting
My latest run isn't showing up when I check in with my coach.
Two likely causes:
Your activity hasn't synced to Strava yet. Check that your watch or device has uploaded the run to Strava. Some devices sync automatically over Wi-Fi; others need to be opened or connected manually. Once it's in Strava, AgentRunCoach will pick it up within a few minutes.
The sync to AgentRunCoach is still in progress. If the run is already on Strava but your coach doesn't see it yet, wait a few minutes and try again. Syncing is automatic but not always instant.
My AI assistant isn't responding with my coaching data.
Check that the connector is still authorized. Go to the connector settings in your AI assistant and look for an option to reauthorize or reconnect. If it looks connected, try removing it and re-adding it using the setup steps above.
How do I reconnect or reset my connection?
Remove the connector and re-add it.
- ChatGPT: go to Settings → Apps & Connectors, find AgentRunCoach, remove it, then follow the setup steps above.
- Claude: go to Customize → Connectors, remove AgentRunCoach, then follow the setup steps above.
You won't lose any data. Everything is stored in AgentRunCoach.
