Glossary

Plain-language definitions for the coaching, planning, workout, and review terms used throughout AgentRunCoach.

These are the terms you will see most often while planning and reviewing your training. They describe parts of the coaching system, not commands you need to memorize.

Planning

Training Focus — the single direction your current training serves, such as a target race, general fitness, base building, or recovery.

Training Plan — the dated schedule of sessions built around your Training Focus, current fitness, availability, and preferences.

Plan Library — the catalog of complete plan shapes you can browse before choosing one to preview and activate.

Plan Preferences — your saved planning choices, including weekly mileage, running days, long-run day, plan style, and taper length. They are defaults for building a plan, not a second training direction.

Plan Preview — a proposed plan you can inspect before saving it. Creating a preview does not replace your active plan.

Training Block — a group of consecutive weeks that share a purpose inside the larger plan. A block can build a foundation, develop race-specific fitness, or reduce load before a race.

Workouts

Planned Workout — one session scheduled on a particular date. It records what you intended to do before the session happened.

Structured Workout — the ordered warm-up, work, recovery, and cool-down steps that make up a session.

Workout Pattern — a reusable session saved without a date. Applying it to a day creates or changes a Planned Workout; editing the pattern later does not rewrite sessions already on your plan.

Named Pace — one athlete-relative target such as easy, marathon, threshold, interval, or repetition pace. Each target is calculated from your current Run Fitness unless you have deliberately overridden it.

Training Zone — one of five broader intensity bands, from Z1 Recovery to Z5 Repetition. A zone is a range; a Named Pace is a particular target.

Training and review

Activity — a completed effort you actually did, whether it arrived from a connected service, a file, or a direct entry. It is separate from the Planned Workout that prescribed the session.

Run Fitness — the estimate used to set your current training paces and show how your running ability changes over time. It can come from a recent race, another supported estimate, or an easy-pace calibration.

Critical Power — the highest running power you can sustain for roughly 40 to 60 minutes. When you choose power targets, it anchors the five power zones; it does not replace Run Fitness for pace targets.

Execution Score — the final comparison between one targeted run and its planned workout, after the coach considers both the measured work and relevant context. It is not a general fitness grade.

Coach Assessment — a saved coaching judgment about a stretch of training, with the evidence and reasoning behind it. It can cover progress toward your focus, a race, or another question spanning several sessions.

Check-in — your report of energy, soreness, confidence, and notes at a point in the plan. It gives the coach context but does not silently rewrite the plan.

Cardio Load — the duration of completed cardio work, including supported non-running disciplines. Strength and mobility deliberately add no Cardio Load.

Ask when a label is unclear

You can ask your assistant what any term means in the context of your own plan. It can explain the label and retrieve the relevant training details without you having to translate the documentation first.

Ask your coach

  • “What is the difference between my Training Focus and my Training Plan?”

  • “What does Execution Score mean?”

  • “Explain the terms on my plan in plain language.”
