Building your first plan
Record what you are training for, connect or describe your recent running, and finish your first plan through a guided coaching conversation.
Your first plan begins with what you want from running, not with a form full of workout settings.
During setup, you record that direction in the web app, connect an assistant, and decide whether to bring in recent running from Strava. Your coach then leads the rest of the setup one question at a time.
Start with what you are training for
A Training Focus — the race, distance aim or general fitness direction your current training serves — does not have to be a scheduled event. A race date gives the plan a fixed destination, but directions such as becoming more consistent or building toward a distance work too.
State the outcome in your own words. You can correct it before the plan is built, and you can change direction later.
Bring the coach the history you have
Recent training helps the coach understand the level you are starting from. You have two routes:
- Connect Strava when that option is available for your account, so recent activities can be read directly.
- Describe recent weeks or share screenshots from a fitness app or watch. Your coach tells you what it is about to save and waits for your approval.
No provider connection is required. An empty AgentRunCoach history is not proof that you have not been running, so your coach should ask rather than assume.
Answer one step at a time
The setup conversation is guided by AgentRunCoach. Your assistant relays each question, records the answer, and moves to the next step instead of inventing its own interview.
The questions establish the plan shape that matters for you: your experience, recent capacity, available days, preferred mix of training and constraints the coach should respect. Strength and cross-training can be included alongside running rather than added as an afterthought.
Review before the plan becomes active
The conversation ends with a proposed plan and a summary of the choices behind it. Review that proposal with your coach. Activation is the deliberate final step; answering the setup questions does not silently place a plan on your calendar.
Later check-ins do not edit the plan automatically
When availability, fatigue or pain changes, tell your coach and ask it to reshape what comes next. Recording a check-in creates useful context, but the separate plan change is what updates future training.
Ask your coach
“Help me finish setting up my first plan.”
“I do not have a race. Can you build me a plan for consistent running?”
“Use my recent running to help shape my first plan.”
